Day 4 Malaga

Today we are docked in Malaga - having come through the Straights of Gibraltar around 5am (I know as there was a Welcome to Gibraltar text message on my phone when I awoke)

Major trip to day - return to the Alhambra for us, last visited 10 years ago.

Malaga, like much of Spain, is undergoing significant regeneration, the cruise dock is new, as is much of the water front. A big change for our last visit.

The journey to Granada is much easier, as there is a new road through the mountains.

Despite the altitude, Granada is very hot today and the Alhambra is very busy.There are strict controls on visitor numbers

As it is the dry season - many of the water features are turned off - but it is still a magical place.

I never cease to marvel at the skills the Moors brought to Spain; fountains and water features on the top of a hill - all fed from high in the nearby mountains - and no machines involved.

And the stucco work and tiles - all made to last just the reign of a Sultan - there is no new stucco - the last being made in the 1400’s
